Dwain Chambers, az olimpiai szerepléstől korábban eltiltott brit sprinter is helyet kapott a londoni játékokon szereplő 71 fős hazai atlétikacsapatban.
A 2003-ban kirobbant THG-botrány egyik leghíresebb érintettje az akkori kétéves eltiltását követően Európa- és világbajnokságokon szerepelhetett, ám az ötkarikás szereplést a Brit Olimpiai Bizottság (BOA) korábbi szabályzata lehetetlenné tette számára.
Chambersnek azután nyílt módja beverekedni magát a londoni indulók közé, hogy a nemzetközi Sportdöntőbíróság (CAS) április végén igazságtalannak ítélte, egyben érvénytelenítette a BOA szabályát. A CAS szerint az életre szóló olimpiai eltiltás ugyanis egy második büntetés az eredeti eltiltás után.
A 34 éves, idén 60 méteren fedettpályás világbajnoki harmadik vágtázó júniusban megnyerte a férfi 100 métert a Birminghamben rendezett brit olimpiai válogatón. Az akkor futott 10.25 mp-es ideje ugyan elmaradt az A-szinttől, ám mivel tavaly futott a 10.18 mp-es szintidőnél jobbat, nevezhető az olimpiára.
