The Hungarian Olympic Committee (HOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) held an interactive seminar at the Larus convention centre about the athletes’ life besides and after sport, that is, about a “double career model”. The host of the event was the former Olympic champion and successful coach, Attila Mizsér who introduced those interested to the subtleties of the double career model.

The HOC and the Adecco Group became partners back in 2005, with the common goal of helping the members of the Olympic family in a transitional stage of their lives, and after their retirement. The HOC’s Athletes Career Programme has been helping athletes for a decade now.

Major topics of the programme include:

  • Who am I? – discover your values, get to know yourself better
  • Opportunities in and responsible use of social media
  • Techniques for networking
  • Using values acquired through sport in the business world

The presenter of the course was Attila Mizsér, who demonstrated through his own example that sport and studying are very much compatible. Attila won a gold medal in pentathlon at the 1988 Summer Olympics and managed to become a successful coach after his retirement. In the first half of the training, the attendees took part in interactive tasks where they could experience that simultaneously training the body and mind is beneficial, rather than detrimental. Afterwards they got a glimpse into how they can take advantage of their personal skills and experiences, obtained and gathered during their sports career, in the job market. The topics of the day also included the importance of networking, and the advantages of consciously using social media platforms.

„During competitions it helps a lot if you know that even though it does not work out in the end, you have another path. (…) Therefore, the question is not whether you can or cannot integrate studying and sport into your life, but how. We are trying to provide participants with ideas and practical examples”. said Attila Mizsér.
