The Hungarian Olympic Committee (HOC) has signed a bilateral partnership agreement with the Qatar Olympic Committee. HOC President Krisztián Kulcsár sat down at the negotiating table with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani in Doha on Thursday.

“This present agreement is a great step forward in our international relations. The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 2002, but Qatar is a significant player in the Olympic Movement for other reasons, too. We see opportunities in numerous areas to deepen our ties”, said President Kulcsár after the signing ceremony.

HOC International Relations and Sports Diplomacy Committee President and International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Director-General Attila Ádámfi, and Ambassador of Hungary to the State of Qatar Barnabás Fodor were also present when the agreement was inked.

The HOC previously signed MoUs with the Algerian, Australian, Czech, Polish, Taiwanese, Vietnamese as well as with the Kuwaiti NOCs. Moreover, it also agreed on a partnership with the Russian Olympic Committee during the 2019 FIE World Fencing Championships organised in Budapest. President Kulcsár travelled to Doha to spectate the inaugural edition of the World Beach Games and to attend the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly.
